Intro

I received a message from Alex Kim asking me if High Speed YoYo would like to review the new RecRev “i”. I was all too happy to say yes, this yoyo looks fantastic. I was asked for my mailing address and that was the last I have heard from RecRev since then. When I got the yoyo about 2 days later I was surprised to see it was shipped in an unpadded envelope, assembled, with nothing protecting it from dangers of postal transit. Luckily the yoyo was unharmed, but I wouldn’t suggest anyone tempt fate with this kind of packaging. Now the question is, will this yoyo be just as haphazard as the shipping or is it going to pull through unharmed once again?

Construction

The “i” is a well-constructed yoyo, it feels incredible in the hand, the finish was flawless, and the laser engraving is truly a spectacle to be seen. It’s beautiful. The color choice I received was half blue, half orange; the colors are vibrant, rich, and evenly applied. The first thing that stuck out immediately was the blasting on this yoyo; it has a very silky feel, quite smooth and slick. I could not wait to throw this yoyo, and that’s exactly what I did. I played with it for a solid 10 days before writing this review, part was out of necessity for the review and part was because I fell in love with it.

Weight

The weight of this yoyo its a little on the light side, I prefer heavier yoyos and I think if this came in a gram or two more it would be right up my alley. Now don’t get me wrong this yoyo is fast and smooth, something we will get into later. I just prefer a heavier yoyo. Either way it is nice to have some variety in the case.

Response and Bearing

The yoyo comes supplied with a impeccably applied flowable silicone, this could be one of the nicest jobs I have seen, there is no doubt about it, this is not the first time RecRev has used Flowable. The bearing that came with the yoyo is a stock C sized bearing, mine was unresponsive right out of the box, so no need to break it in, or clean it. I love when yoyo’s come this way.

Playability

This yoyo was made to grind, and grind it does. It almost feels naughty on grinds. It’s so smooth. For you grinding fans this will become a favorite. The yoyo moves fast on the string and flies through tricks. Never once did I get a snag or bind even when filling the gap with multiple string wraps. It is agile and it is forgiving, my particular model was incredibly smooth on the string and on grinds. I instantly fell in love with this yoyo even though it’s a lot lighter then I prefer. After the initial review testing, I continued playing with the “i”. Not because I needed to, it did not require additional time to form an opinion. I honestly just could not put the darn thing down.

Final Thoughts

I was awaiting specs from the manufacture when the “i” dropped at one of the stores. When I saw that this yoyo was selling for $50 I almost passed out. This may well be one of the best yoyo values currently on the market. It’s an amazing piece at an amazing price. In one word, would I suggest it? Definitely.
