The Atmosphere by Brett Grimes
First Thoughts:

When I saw the new YoYoJam Atmosphere I was instantly intrigued by its elegance and class, the YoYo just looked incredible. I looked at the specs and I knew I had to try this. Something about the undersize nature of it was right up my alley, but I will be honest it was the weight that caught my eye. Will this be heavenly or does it belong in the dirt.

Construction:

When I got the yoyo everything I liked about it initially still held true, this is a beautiful yoyo the color of the body and rims just flow well. The caps are also classy which to me is one of the things I didn’t like about most YYJ caps. This one exudes class. The rims are attached cleanly with no marks and shine in a nice nickel finish. Over all this is one of the best-constructed YYJ’s I have seen to date. Kudos.

Weight:

Tipping in at 70 grams this is no lightweight. I am known to love a heavy yoyo but even I was unsure about this one, but that’s what intrigued me. When I pulled it out of the package I thought, “Wow this thing is a tank” I wasn’t too sure how it was going to play it is HEAVY there is no doubt about it. If you like floaty yo-yos this isn’t for you.

Response and Bearing:

This came with a stock YYJ bearing which has, in my experience, always been reliable. They seem to just take a beating and keep going. It is the Timex of yo-yo bearings. It was unresponsive right out of the box. The response system is a set of YYJ silicone pads that play wonderfully, nice and tight binds with no snags what so ever. Together these provide a fantastic experience.

Playability:

This is a very odd yoyo, and I mean that in a great way. When you first throw this yoyo THUNK it hits the bottom of the string but at the same time it has no lag, just moving with quickness. Best way to explain how this yoyo performs is with Authority. Do not question it, just let it do its thing. I had no issues with anything. It grinds well for a plastic (Celcon) yoyo. It has a huge gap that allows tons of string to enter it with no slow down, yet it remains a great binder. This has changed my whole outlook on plastic yo-yos and it will be the yoyo that I will judge all other plastics against. I cannot say it enough I LOVE this yoyo.

Final Thoughts:

When I saw this yoyo I knew I had to own it and I am glad that I do. This is one, if not the best playing plastic I have thrown to date. It is just a pleasure to play and even though it is heavier then anything I own I just can’t seem to put it down no matter how long I play with it. Well done YYJ, well done.
